Chilodonella

Chilodonella can we interprete a parasitic goldfish disease. When one goldfish get a severe debilitating condition, the parasite can lie dormant for long periods of time. This condition will trigger poor water quality or stress to the goldfish that causes rapid reproduction of the chilodonella. Discovery of chilodonella in the early stages is difficult due to the small size of the parasite. This makes it very hard to spot.

Chilodonella - Goldfish Disease

Now chilodonella still a major threat to goldfish. Chilodonella can be fatal and could goldfish die if it affects the gill area of goldfish. If not goldfish will suffer long term damage. So start treatment immediately when Chilodonella discovered on our goldfish.

Symptoms of fish behaviour that appear because of Chilodonella

- Rubbing
- Clamped fins
- Labored breathing
- Gasping at the surface
- Lethargy
- Loss of appetite
- Increase in breathing rate, If the their gills are affected
- A light-blue opaque layer on the skin between the head and dorsal fin
- In the later stages of infection the skin becomes swollen
